What’s in a name?

Welcome to my blog – Philippians5Squared!

You may be wondering what the name of the blog means…well let me enlighten you as the blog name speaks to a number of my passions.

1. Philippians5Squared is rooted in my enjoyment of math. The number five squared equals 25. Or since this is part of a Bible verse 2.5. So Philippians5Squared points you to Philippians 2.5, “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.”

2. Philippians5Squared is rooted in spiritual formation. Followers of Christ are to be formed into Christlikeness. Spiritual formation is vital to our discipleship journey. We are invited and called as followers of Jesus to have the same mind of Christ and to allow this to transform us more and more each day.

3. Philippians5Squared is rooted in music. Philippians 2.5-11 is known as the Christ hymn, one of the oldest New Testament hymns we have recorded. I enjoy music and to know this passage was prominent in the early church as part of their worship life together helps it carry extra significance for me.

4. Philippians5Squared is rooted in ministry. As a pastor, ministry is what I do, but it is also what all Christians are called to do. This passage points to the servant leadership of Christ that is a challenge to me and a calling I try and live into every day.

So, Philippians5Squared points to my passions of ministry, music, spiritual formation, and math. These are topics I hope to work through in the blog and I invite you on this journey with me.

Blessings in Christ,

Matt
